The need to strengthen strategic sectors such as health, energy, transport, agribusiness and industry in Angola was at the center of the audience granted by the Minister of Planning, Victor Hugo Guilherme, to the delegation from DLA Piper, one of the largest law firms in the world, on Tuesday, 24, at the Ministry of Planning’s premises.<\/p>\n\n

The company, present in more than 40 countries, including 20 in Africa, and with a strong presence in the US, intends to leverage its experience to support the Angolan government, especially through PPPs.<\/p>\n\n

During the meeting, the Minister highlighted the need to speed up projects in the health, energy, transport, agro-industry and industry sectors, pointing out that the IFC has already identified between six and eight priority projects in the health area. However, he stressed that agro-industry and manufacturing need more support to boost investment and value creation in the country. <\/p>\n\n

He also warned of the challenges of international reputation, aggravated by Angola’s inclusion on the European Union’s “black list”, a consequence of the country remaining on the FATF’s (Financial Action Task Force) “gray list”, and advocated strengthening compliance and governance mechanisms.<\/p>\n\n

DLA Piper pledged to support Angola in mobilizing investment, implementing PPPs and institutional strengthening, highlighting the firm’s experience in infrastructure, energy and business environment projects in Africa.<\/p>\n\n

The meeting reinforced the mutual interest in making Angola a more attractive destination for sustainable investment, with a focus on economic diversification and strengthening internal capacities, stressing that the country, with its size, young population and natural resources, has enormous potential to be exploited.<\/p>\n\n
